Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund

The Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund is a consumer protection mechanism to which every dealer must contribute when registering with OMVIC.

The fund was established to compensate – up to $15,000 – consumers who suffer a financial loss arising from a transaction with a registered motor vehicle dealer. The Compensation Fund's Board of Trustees examines each claim on an individual basis to determine if the claimant is entitled to compensation.

Claims against the fund must meet certain requirements, and can be made within two years of a dealer's inability or refusal to reimburse the consumer.
