Government Initiates Consultations for Proposed Changes to the MVDA

The Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations (MCCR) is initiating a process of public consultations intended to give consumers and businesses the opportunity to voice their opinions with respect to proposed changes to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA). These consultations are part of a broader consumer-protection initiative, which will also address legislative changes to the real estate and travel industries.

Although the affairs of the motor vehicle dealers industry in Ontario fall under the jurisdiction of OMVIC -the industry's self-management body appointed as the administrative authority in charge of the MVDA- the responsibility for making changes to this and other Acts is still a matter that requires government's sanction and parliamentary approval.

We want to encourage consumers and dealers alike to join these consultations. Since the ultimate goal of this process is to enhance consumer protection it would be really useful for our legislator to hear from all the parties involved.
