OMVIC’s Code of Ethics is mandated by the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA) and is designed to protect Ontario’s consumers, as well as create a level playing field for dealerships. All registrants (dealers and salespeople) must adhere to the standards detailed in the Code of Ethics. Dealers or salespeople who breach the Code of Ethics may receive a notice of discipline. The recipient of a notice can negotiate a settlement by an agreed statement of facts or elect to have their matter heard at a discipline hearing.
Section 27 of Ontario Regulation 333/08 of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA) requires OMVIC to make all discipline decisions available to the public.
Below is a list of all discipline decisions related to dealers and salespeople found in breach of OMVIC’s Code of Ethics (since January 1, 2010).
