If an OMVIC-Registered Dealer is closing their dealership, they are required to provide OMVIC with written notice within 10 days explaining the reason for closure.
The dealership cannot conduct the business of trading vehicles unless registration is reinstated nor can it represent itself as being registered with OMVIC.
Dealers will be required to remit any outstanding OMVIC transaction fees collected from customers by completing the Transaction Report and Payment Form.
All registration certificates, decals and any other evidence of registration to OMVIC must be returned to OMVIC.
The dealership will no longer be able to transfer vehicle registrations at the Ministry of Transportation without first obtaining OMVIC’s consent.
Dealers who have voluntarily closed their business are generally allowed to sell any vehicles remaining in inventory to another OMVIC-Registered Dealer. In order to obtain such approval, the dealership will need to submit a signed statement with the following information:
- Confirmation that dealership is closing
- List of all vehicles remaining in inventory including the VIN, make, model and year
- Explanation of how dealership intends to sell (or dispose of) these vehicles
This information should be sent to the attention of the Registration Manager at
, or by fax to 416-512-3701.
