Free Car-Buying Seminars Teach Consumers How to Buy a Car in Ontario

Buying a car is one of the most expensive purchases a consumer will make in their lifetime. It is a transaction that requires thought, research and knowledge. It’s important that consumers educate themselves BEFORE entering into an agreement to purchase a vehicle.

As Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator, OMVIC offers FREE Car-Buying Seminars to consumer and community groups.

Seminar topics include:

  • Consumer rights
  • Difference between buying from an OMVIC-Registered Dealer and buying privately
  • Advertisements
  • What dealers must disclose about a vehicle’s history and condition
  • Curbsiders—illegal, unlicensed dealers
  • What to consider when choosing a vehicle
  • What you can do if you have a problem with a purchase
  • OMVIC’s role
  • The Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund

These seminars are invaluable to first time car buyers and new Canadians. Even consumers who have  bought many vehicles, take away important information:

“I now know more about the legislation governing car-buying in Ontario.”

“I’ve bought many cars before. I had no idea there was so much I didn’t know.”

“The education officer spoke at a good pace, gave thorough explanations and useful handouts.”

“There were lots of opportunities to ask of questions.”

Presentations are available across the province to interested community groups, newcomer centres and schools. OMVIC education staff will come to you! We offer seminars in the evenings and weekends as well.

If your group or class would like to host a FREE car-buying seminar, contact OMVIC’s erudite and entertaining Education Officer scott.long@omvic.on.ca
