OMVIC Blog: Car Buying Tips

Bought a car in the past five months? We want your feedback!

consumer survey

In early April, dealerships were closed due to the pandemic. In May they reopened, but with strict public health guidelines, which have altered the car-buying experience not just for dealers, but also for consumers.

If you’ve bought a vehicle in the past five months, OMVIC and consumer watchdog group—the  Automobile Protection Association (APA) — wants  you to take a short survey about buying a car during the pandemic.

To complete survey, click on this link: APA Consumer Survey

Why are you doing a consumer survey?

In May, the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS) asked OMVIC to provide them with data about COVID-19’s impact on motor vehicle sales in Ontario. To help them, OMVIC committed to conducting two surveys. OMVIC  issued the first survey** in June and submitted the results to the Ministry.

For the second survey, OMVIC is collaborating with the APA, who is conducting the consumer survey. The results will help the government understand how changes in the vehicle sales industry are affecting those who buy and sell cars. Our goal is to provide the Ministry with a complete understanding of the challenges facing consumers and one of Ontario’s most vital industries.

Why should I do a consumer survey?

First, rest assured your answers will remain completely anonymous and confidential. There will be no follow-up phone calls or emails. Second, it takes less than five minutes to complete. But most importantly: as a consumer, you wield a lot of influence. If you bought a car in the past five months, your experience is valuable to the government as they continue planning the economic recovery.

What’s in it for me?

In appreciation, the APA will randomly draw five completed surveys for either a complimentary one-year APA membership or renewal for you or a friend or, if you prefer a
$50 VISA gift card.
