What to Remember

1. The VIN: ensure the VIN on the UVIP is the same as the VIN on the car. Both numbers should match. Read our post on vehicle details to learn more.
2. Branding: there are only two brands that allow you to legally drive a car on the road in Ontario: rebuilt and none. Read our post on vehicle details to learn more about branding.
3. Owner’s Name: ensure the owner’s name on the UVIP is the same as the seller’s I.D. Read our post on current ownership and vehicle history to learn more.
4. Odometer Reading: remember, numbers should only go up over time on an odometer, so ensure the number in the UVIP’s section 2 is lower than the number in section 3. If it isn’t, investigate why. Read our post on current ownership and vehicle history to learn more about odometer readings.
5. Liens: there should not be any liens on the vehicle. If there is one, take steps to ensure it is removed. Read our post on lien information and bill of sale to learn more.
