OMVIC’s Free Car-Buying Seminars Teach Consumers How to Buy a Car in Ontario

Buying a car is one of the most expensive purchases a consumer will make in their lifetime. It is a transaction that requires thought, research and knowledge, which is why it is important that consumers educate themselves BEFORE entering into an agreement to purchase.
As Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator, OMVIC urges consumers to get educated before purchasing a car. To help, OMVIC offers FREE Car-Buying Seminars to consumer/ community groups, new Canadians and students to protect and educate consumers before they buy.

- Difference between buying from a dealer and buying privately
- How to review advertisements
- What dealers must disclose about a vehicle’s history and condition
- What is a curbsider (illegal, unlicensed dealers);
- How to research a vehicle’s history
- What to consider when choosing a vehicle
- Laws that protect consumers and when they apply
- What you can do if you have a problem with a purchase
- Protections available to consumers when purchasing from an OMVIC-registered dealer and The Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund.
Seminars are available across the province and OMVIC education staff will come to you! We offer seminars in the evenings and weekends as well.
