To mark this educational milestone, Georgian College President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes, presented OMVIC Chief Executive Officer, John Carmichael with an honour of recognition at a ceremony on June 2nd.

“This achievement demonstrates the successful partnership and commitment to education by OMVIC and Georgian College,” said OMVIC CEO, John Carmichael. “This mandatory certification course is proof of OMVIC’s, and the industry’s, commitment to professionalism.”

OMVIC’s Automotive Certification Program provides training in automotive law and ethics and is delivered through Georgian College’s Automotive Business School of Canada. Established in 1999, the program was designed to ensure dealers and salespeople understood the regulations governing retail automotive sales thereby promoting professionalism and improving consumer protection. It was the first mandatory course for dealers and salespeople in Canada.

In Ontario, dealers or salespeople must be registered with OMVIC. In addition to passing the Automotive Certification Course, applicants must submit to additional background checks including a criminal background check.

Now in its eighteenth year, the Certification Course has seen a 36 per cent increase in annual enrolments since its inception.

The course is available in class and through correspondence; an online version will launch later in 2017.
